Information Provided Directly
Search Queries
A name, location, or other term entered into an available search tool is sent to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Mecklenburg County Busted Mugshots does not keep a separate log of those submitted search terms on its own systems.
Messages
If a visitor sends a message through an available contact method, the message and the details provided may be retained to respond, investigate a site issue, or keep a record of the exchange. We do not disclose those messages outside our organization unless a legal requirement calls for disclosure.
Automatic Technical Information
Like most web services, the site and its service providers may receive routine technical details when a page is requested.
- Internet protocol address
- Browser type and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages opened and the time spent on them
- Referring page or service, when available
- Date and time of the request
Cookies
Cookies and similar tools help measure site use and support ordinary functions. A visitor can block or remove cookies through browser settings, although parts of the site or an outside service may work differently as a result.
How Information Is Used
Information is used to operate and improve the site, not to create or maintain official Mecklenburg County records.
- Maintain site availability and performance
- Send a submitted search query to the appropriate partner service
- Understand which pages readers use
- Detect, investigate, and correct technical problems
- Support advertising that may be based on interests
External Sites and Services
The site links to official resources such as the Meherrin River Regional Jail, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, courts, government portals, and outside search tools. Once a visitor follows an external link, that organization’s terms and privacy practices control its service.
The Virginia law-enforcement records rule at Va. Code § 2.2-3706 governs defined public-record duties of public bodies. It does not govern the privacy practices of this private site or its third-party tools. Advertising providers may also collect activity across sites on their own systems for interest-based advertising.
Who May Receive Information
We do not sell personal information. Depending on the feature used and the circumstances, information may be received by the following parties.
- Search partners that process a submitted query
- Analytics providers that measure site use
- Advertising networks that serve or measure advertisements
- Law enforcement or another government body when a valid legal order requires disclosure
Security Practices
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect information under our control. Internet transmission and storage are never completely secure, so no method can be guaranteed against every unauthorized access, loss, or disclosure.
Visitors Under 18
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If a minor has provided information, a parent, guardian, or the individual may ask that it be removed through the Contacts page.
Choices About Your Information
A visitor may request information about personal data we hold by using the Contacts page. Subject to applicable law and verification, a visitor may ask for a copy, correction, deletion, or an end to certain processing of that data.
Changes to This Notice
We may revise this notice as the site or its services change. A revised version will be posted here with a new effective date, and continued use after posting is subject to the updated notice.
